Michael Lee Cook is the proprietor of Micah Counseling Services. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT). His professional interest is in Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST) and its applications to individuals, families, and organizations.
He has practiced psychotherapy and counseling for 14+ years and has extensive clinical and practical experience working with clients on a variety of psychological, emotional, and relationship issues. His work is informed by a broad career that includes military service, leadership in banking and finance, and academia.
These experiences have prepared Michael well to connect with and work effectively with a diversity of clients and to understand the complex issues and problems they face. He holds degrees in business, theology, and counseling.
Michael is also a professional member, clinical fellow, and approved supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). He is a leader in the mental health field and provides clinical supervision and coaching to students and professionals pursuing licensure as MFTs and has served on the leadership team of the Georgia Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (GAMFT).
Dr. Cook has written an array of articles and conducts workshops and webinars that focus on applying Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST) to a variety of personal, professional, and organizational issues and concerns.
He is a systems thinker that examines the impact and implications of cultural, economic, and social factors on families, relationships, and institutional life.
Dr. Cook was born and raised in Vidalia, Georgia, which is known as the “Sweet Onion City.” Michael has been happily married for 21+ years and has a teenage son and daughter.
His hobbies include exercising, golfing, writing, camping, reading stoicism, and watching comedy specials and documentaries.
